Technical Strategy

User experience at the core of our effort

Our task during the design phase was to provide insight and guidance as to the best way to implement LOKI’s design vision while focusing on creating a positive user experience across a wide range of devices and following industry best practices. This included systematizing design variations into a robust but easy-to-use storytelling system for the site’s editorial team.

One example is the Histoire page which allows for the addition of as many “year blocks” as desired in order to tell the organization’s story. Each year may have a quote or an image as a point of visual focus. However, each year’s colour is automatically assigned and the position of the text column is predetermined.

We also devised a book and news filtering systems that use a combination of dropdown and carousel technology to allow for easy and compact browsing of long lists of taxonomies like publication years, authors, and subjects. On mobile devices, the carousel allows for native swipe gestures to seamlessly integrate with expected user experience.

Each book and news post has a number of available options for presenting a variety of pertinent information. We worked with the éditions du remue-ménage team to optimize the workflow of content addition while building in flexibility for the future.

Modern approach to storytelling

We used industry best practices to develop our designs into a fully functional, bilingual, and responsive website that’s a pleasure to use on a wide range of devices.

As with all of our website, we build the new Childhood Disability LINK website to use WordPress as it Content Management System (CMS). We applied our user-focused design process to the creation of a simple to use content organization for ease of maintenance and update.

Training & Launch

Handing over the keys

With the final website fully tested to ensure the site performs consistently well across a wide range of representative devices and browsers, we conducted a CMS training session for current site authors.

The editorial team was given an in-person training session on using and updating the site content that lasted approximately an hour and a half. Barring a few clarifying questions they were able to add all site content and continue to regularly update the website.

Finally, we assisted in the hosting provider selection and launched the éditions du remue-ménage’s new website on their new hosting account while setting up and migrating organizational email accounts.

Working with Sasha was a real charm from start to finish. In addition to being thorough and very professional, they know perfectly well how to make technical aspects of programming more accessible to relative neophytes. A skillful communicator, they are also very human and creative, light years away from the image of a taciturn and hermit webmaster. We always felt confident with her, and of course, we learned a lot! I would recommend her to anyone without a second of hesitation.
